10th ASEAN-Russia Senior Officials’ Meeting on Agriculture Advances Sustainable and Innovative Agricultural Development

On August 20, 2025, the 10th ASEAN-Russia Senior Officials’ Meeting on Agriculture (10th  ARSOMA) was convened via video conference. The Meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Thanda Kyi, Director-General of Department of Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar, and Ms. A. Rozhkova, Deputy Director of Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, with the participation of all ASEAN Member States, Russian Federation and the ASEAN Secretariat. Timor-Leste participated in the 10th ARSOMA as an observer.

The 10th ARSOMA reviewed the implementation of the ASEAN-Russia Agriculture and Food Security Cooperation Work Programme 2021–2025, which includes various projects, such as:

(i) Adaptation and Implementation of Modern Molecular Biology Technologies in Agriculture and Wastewater Treatment; (ii) Design and Development of the ASEAN–Russia Interactive Communication Network for the Exchange of Innovative Technologies on Sustainable Agricultural Development; and (iii) Development of an Interactive GIS as a Tool for Communication and Training of Specialists from ASEAN Countries, using the example of the Greater Mekong Subregion. These projects have supported ASEAN and Russia in enhancing knowledge and experience in applying advanced technologies to improve productivity in a sustainable manner.

The 10th ARSOMA emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in agriculture between ASEAN and Russia. It also discussed the way forward, focusing on areas such as digital technologies, cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, sustainable and regenerative practices, wastewater treatment and water management, innovative farming technologies, soil degradation, and other priority areas.
