JAKARTA, 1 March 2024 – The ASEAN-Korea Music Festival 2024 (2024 ROUND), hosted by Korean broadcasting company KBS and sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund, is set to take place in Lao PDR this November.
The 2024 ROUND, now in its fourth iteration since its inauguration in 2020, is dedicated to nurturing cultural ties and fostering dialogue between ASEAN member countries and Korea through the medium of music. Featuring renowned artists from the ASEAN region and Korea, the festival has transformed into a melting pot where music enthusiasts worldwide can come together and celebratein harmony. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival made a resounding comeback in 2023 with its inaugural offline concert in Jakarta, Indonesia, attracting over 2,000 attendees and selling out its pre-sale tickets.
ASEAN and Korea mark a significant milestone this year, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their dynamic and evolving partnership. Since 1989, the relationship has flourished, progressing from sectoral dialogue to comprehensive cooperation in 2004 and ultimately reaching strategic partnership in 2010. This collaboration has fostered deeper engagement in diverse areas like diplomacy, security, culture, and the economy.
Lao PDR will host the 2024 ROUND in November as part of its ASEAN Chairmanship. This significant event underscores the growing importance of cultural exchange in fostering harmony and cooperation between ASEAN and Korea. The 2024 ROUND serves as a cornerstone of this cultural exchange, aiming to further strengthen and celebrate the collaborative relationship between the two regions.
Prior to the festival, the ASEAN-Korea Music Forum 2024 will be held on 5-6 March 2024 in Seoul, bringing together music industry professionals from Korea and the 10 ASEAN Member States. This year’s forum will focus on “the vision and potential of ASEAN and Korea music in the global music market.”
Aiming to provide a networking opportunity for ASEAN music experts and artists to actively communicate and collaborate while featuring discussions on KBS’s AI solution ‘VVERTIGO’, the festival will also be a venue to share achievements and visions and showcase Korean broadcasting technology through its music programme.
Detailed schedules and information regarding the upcoming Forum and Festival can be found on the ROUND official website, YouTube channel, and social media platforms. The Festival will be produced as future broadcasting content and is scheduled to be aired on the KBS World YouTube channel.
