The 3rd ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit was organised on 23 August 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Guided by the theme “Strengthening the Care Economy and Resilience towards ASEAN Community Post-2025”, the Summit reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to promote the care economy agenda, recognising the specific challenges and opportunities in supporting women and girls in the context of resilience building. The Summit is one of priorities during Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairpersonship in 2024.

The Summit was officially opened and chaired by H.E. Sonexay Siphandone, the Prime Minister of Lao PDR, and was participated both in-person and virtually by the representatives of the Head of States, women leaders and ministers in-charge of women affairs from ASEAN Member States, as well as representatives from Australia, Canada, U.K and UNESCAP.

The Summit was preceded by discussions that highlighted the linkages between care economy and addressing gender-based violence, women, peace and security, and climate resilience, among others. The Summit and its pre-events were attended by 150 participants joining in-person and online from all ASEAN Member States together with the representatives from partners and international organisations.
