At the invitation of H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn will lead the ASEAN Secretariat’s Delegation to participate in the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences, the 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 14th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), hosted by Lao PDR as ASEAN Chair for 2024, which will take place in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 24-28 July 2024, under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.” While in Vientiane, Dr. Kao will hold bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN’s external partners to exchange views on the latest developments happening around the region and the world as well as to explore new ideas on how to further strengthen and broaden cooperation and partnership towards realising the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and beyond. Dr. Kao is also scheduled to hold Annual Interface with AICHR Representatives on the margins of the 57th AMM and related meetings.
- ABOUT ASEAN
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, Cambodia on 30 April 1999, and Timor-Leste on 26 October 2025 making up what is today the eleven Member States of ASEAN.
