The ASEAN Secretariat offers two categories of career opportunities:
- Openly Recruited Staff (ORS): Open to all AMS nationals. Positions include Senior Officer, Assistant Director, Director, and Deputy Secretary-General (for the ASEAN Economic Community Department and for the Community and Corporate Affairs Department).
- Locally Recruited Staff (LRS): Open to Indonesians and other AMS nationals residing in Indonesia with eligibility to work in Indonesia. Positions include General Service Staff, Functional Staff, Associate Officer, and Officer.
ORS Members and LRS Members shall not be retained in active service beyond the age of sixty (60) years. Accordingly, for practical reasons, the ASEAN Secretariat will only consider shortlisting candidates who, if selected, would be eligible to serve the ASEAN Secretariat for a minimum of three (3) years. Newly recruited staff members are initially appointed on a three-year (3) fixed-term contract, subject to a probationary evaluation. Upon successful completion of the initial contract, the appointment may be renewed, subject to satisfactory performance.
Working Hours
The ASEAN Secretariat observes a 5-day work week. Official workdays are from Monday to Friday. The normal official working hours are from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. or 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., including one-hour time for lunch.
Compensation and Benefits
The ASEAN Secretariat offers competitive remuneration packages for both ORS and LRS staff, which include gratuity, medical coverage, insurance, and opportunities for capacity building and skills development. In addition, there are 13th month bonus and transport allowance for LRS positions; and relocation and repatriation, housing, utilities, child education allowances, and home leave passage for ORS positions.
