JAKARTA, 27 February 2026 – The “Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (QuISP)” course officially commenced with an online kick-off workshop from 23-26 February 2026. This year’s cohorts brought together young professionals from across ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat.

In the opening session, Isagani C. Erna, Assistant Director and Head of Standards and Conformance Division of the ASEAN Secretariat, highlighted the priorities of the ASEAN Economic Community. He emphasised the role of quality infrastructure in facilitating trade, strengthening regulatory cooperation, and supporting sustainable development across the region.

Throughout the course, participants explored quality infrastructure, the system comprising the organisations (public and private) together with the policies, relevant legal and regulatory framework, and practices needed to support and enhance the quality, safety and environmental soundness of goods, services and processes.

The curriculum focuses on metrology, standardisation, accreditation, conformity assessment and market surveillance. By raising awareness among young professionals working in fields related to trade negotiations and trade agreements, this programme provides a platform for the exchange of information and experiences to support the continuous advancement of quality infrastructure systems in ASEAN.

The four-month QuISP course combines online learning with collaborative team assignments. Following the kick-off workshop, participants will proceed to a 12-week e-learning phase. Participants who successfully complete the e-learning components will be invited to attend the final workshop in Germany in June 2026.

The QuISP course was organised with the support of Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the National Metrology Institute of Germany, under the project “Strengthening Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN”. PTB supports the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality and its subsidiary bodies in their efforts to the realisation of an integrated ASEAN single market and production base by reducing technical barriers to trade.

Over the past 16 years, more than 220 experts have been trained through QuISP, forming a growing and diverse network of professionals committed to advancing quality infrastructure worldwide.
