H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene
H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene is appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for Political-Security Community from 2021 to 2024.
He supports the Secretary-General of ASEAN in managing cooperation in political and security relations with Member States, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, Sectoral Dialogue Partners, Development Partner as well as international and regional organisations.
He also provides leadership in the implementation of the APSC Blueprint 2025 and leads the APSC Department at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Before assuming his current role, DSG Tene was the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs between 2019 to 2021.
As a seasoned diplomat with over 25 years of experience, he had served various appointments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Indonesia. He was a Senior Official at the Directorate General for ASEAN Cooperation at the MFA of Indonesia, prior to joining the ASEAN Secretariat in 2019.
In his last overseas posting, DSG Tene was the Deputy Permanent Representative/Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva between 2015 and 2018.
He holds an MA in Public Administration from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan and a BA from Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia.
