ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SEOM) in Kuala Lumpur agreed on
amendments to the Thai proposal to establish AFTA.

23rd AEM in Kuala Lumpur agreed to form a regional free trade area
within 15 years.

1st Meeting of the Interim Technical Working Group (ITWG) on CEPT
for AFTA in Jakarta.

1 At the 4th ASEAN Summit in Singapore, the ASEAN Heads of
Government formally agreed to establish AFTA and signed the Singapore
Declaration and the Framework Agreement on Enhancing ASEAN Economic
Cooperation; AEM signed the Agreement on the CEPT or the AFTA.
April 25
SEOM in Kuala Lumpur drafted a programme for tariff cuts in AFTA.
Sept. 11
ASEAN inaugurated the AFTA Council to speed up the
implementation of AFTA.
Dec. 11
AFTA Council met in Jakarta. Three documents (Operational
Procedures for CEPT, Rules of Origin for CEPT, and Interpretative Notes to
the Agreement on the CEPT Scheme for AFFA) were prepared. The ASEAN
countries exchanged summary of products included and excluded and tentative
lists of product inclusion and temporary exclusions. Each country submitted
general formula of tariff reduction schedule.
1993
Jan. 1
The ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) officially started.
Jul. 10
Special ITWG Meeting was held in Jakarta. All ASEAN member
countries have submitted and exchanged their lists, subject to reconfirmation
by 31 July 1993.

25th AEM in Singapore confirmed the product lists in the
