The National AFTA Units, in Member Governments, and the AFTA Unit in the ASEAN Secretariat were established by the ASEAN Economic Ministers in their 26th Meeting in September 1995. The Units were created to more efficiently implement and monitor the CEPT Scheme for AFTA and provide a quick-response mechanism to possible problems. The Units also act as a channel for information on AFTA and a forum in which private sector queries/complaints could be raised.
ASEAN Member Countries have further (strengthened the linkage among the Units via the INTERNET so as to enhance communication and exchange of information. The private sector is encouraged to raise queries or complaints on trade-related issues in ASEAN with these Units. The Ministries/Departments and addresses of these Units are as follows:
