AICHR convenes workshop to promote access to tertiary education in ASEAN

LUANG PRABANG, 29 August 2025- The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) convened the Regional Workshop on Dissemination of the Outcome of the Thematic Study on the Right to Education: Promotion of Access to Tertiary Education in ASEAN on 28 – 29 August in Luang Prabang.

The event brought together around 50 participants from various sectors. Attendees included representatives from several ASEAN Member States’ Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs (such as Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos), as well as academic institutions like Hanoi Law University, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Malaysia, and the National University of Laos. Also present were Lao human rights focal points, the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, relevant sectoral bodies, the ASEAN University Network-Human Rights Education (AUN-HRE), the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), AICHR Representatives and Assistants, and the ASEAN and AUN Secretariats.

The workshop served to disseminate the outcomes of the Thematic Study on the Right to Education: Promotion of Access to Tertiary Education in ASEAN, with the goal of raising public awareness across ASEAN, concerning human rights particularly the right to education among the peoples of ASEAN. Through presentations and discussions, the representatives of the ASEAN Member States and other stakeholders had fruitful and constructive discussions aimed at further elaboration in the future.
