PHNOM PENH, 29 March 2022 – The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) conducted a virtual workshop to facilitate the transition between AICHR Representatives for the 2019-2021 term and AICHR Representatives for the 2022-2024 term today.
Minister Keo Remy, attached to the Cambodian Prime Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, Representative of Cambodia to AICHR and Chair of AICHR 2022, opened the workshop. It aimed to facilitate the sustainability of AICHR’s work, share information and discuss challenges related to the promotion and protection of human rights in ASEAN.
Former AICHR Representatives shared their experiences, challenges, and best practices in performing AICHR’s mandate and functions during their term of 2019-2021. Participants also discussed institutional and operational matters of AICHR, such as engagement with stakeholders, cooperation with external partners, thematic study and research, capacity building, human rights strategies in the region, self-assessment on the implementation of the AICHR’s Terms of Reference, among others.
