JAKARTA, 14 January 2016 - H.E. Abdelkader Aziria, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to ASEAN presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.
SG Minh congratulated Ambassador Aziria on his appointment as the new Ambassador of Algeria to ASEAN and looked forward to working closely with him to initiate practical cooperation that will promote ASEAN and Algeria relations. SG Minh also stressed the importance for ASEAN to reach out to new and emerging partners including individual countries from Africa.
On this occasion, Ambassador Aziria extended his congratulations on the establishment of ASEAN Community and commended ASEAN’s efforts in deepening regional integration. Both sides also shared ideas on the potential areas for future cooperation between ASEAN and Algeria including energy cooperation, tourism, trade and foreign direct investment among others.
Ambassador Aziria informed SG Minh on the 26th African Union Summit to be held in Addis Ababa later this month with a special focus on the rights of women which is also a priority area of cooperation in ASEAN. He highlighted the importance of having cooperation between ASEAN and the African Union and suggested possible meetings between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and the accredited Ambassadors from African countries to explore ways of enhancing cooperation based on the spirit of 1955 Asian-African Conference.
