JAKARTA, 12 September 2024 – Ambassador Dagmar González Grau of the Republic of Cuba, presented her Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, officially assuming her role as Cuba’s Ambassador to ASEAN.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Grau on her new position and affirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with her and the Embassy of Cuba in Jakarta to enhance ASEAN-Cuba relations and cooperation. He encouraged Cuba to further explore collaboration with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, health, biotechnology, disaster management, and climate change. Additionally, he suggested that Cuba should strengthen its engagement with ASEAN through its role in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Ambassador Grau underlined Cuba’s interest in fostering mutually beneficial relations with ASEAN and expressed her country’s readiness to work closely in exploring opportunities for cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States.
In 2020, Cuba acceded to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), demonstrating its commitment to regional peace and stability, and the promotion of friendly relations and cooperation with ASEAN. The ASEAN Committee in Havana, Cuba (ACHC), was established in 2022 to promote ASEAN’s relations and cooperation with Cuba in the host country.
