Ambassador of Kazakhstan to ASEAN presents Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN

JAKARTA, 20 June 2024 – Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Kazakhstan to ASEAN, Serzhan Abdykarimov, presented his Letter of Credence (LOC) to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Abdykarimov on his assumption of office and looked forward to working with him in promoting closer relations between ASEAN and Kazakhstan. Going forward, Secretary-General Dr. Kao encouraged Kazakhstan to continue working with ASEAN in exploring possible cooperation in areas of mutual benefits and interests, including trade and investment.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao also encouraged Kazakhstan to promote its engagement with ASEAN through the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Ambassador Abdykarimov recognised the important role of ASEAN in promoting peace and security in the region. He further expressed his readiness to work closely with ASEAN to strengthen Kazakhstan’s relations and cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States.

Kazakhstan accredited its first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2014. The ASEAN Committee in Astana was formally established in March 2014 to promote ASEAN’s relations and cooperation with Kazakhstan in the host country.
