JAKARTA, 21 March 2024 — Ambassador Daniel Blockert of Sweden presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters today, assuming his office as Sweden’s Ambassador to ASEAN.
Dr. Kao Kim Hourn welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Blockert on his assumption of duty as the Ambassador of Sweden to ASEAN. He acknowledged the latter’s commitment to strengthen its relations with ASEAN and reiterated the ASEAN Secretariat’s readiness to work closely with Ambassador Blockert and the Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta.
Ambassador Blockert underscored the importance that Sweden attaches to ASEAN and underlined the importance of amplifying ASEAN-Sweden relations bilaterally and through the ASEAN-EU cooperation framework.
Both sides welcomed the outcomes of the 24th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting held on 2 February 2024 in Brussels and the issuance of the Joint Ministerial Statement. They also exchanged views to advance the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership and the need to project the visibility of the partnership to all stakeholders from both sides.
Dr. Kao Kim Hourn said: “ASEAN looks forward to cooperate and collaborate with Sweden in areas of mutual interest bilaterally as well as through the ASEAN-EU framework.”
Ambassador Blockert said, “For Sweden, it is important to not only maintain a relationship with ASEAN, but also to strengthen it, including by advancing the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership.” He succeeds the previous Ambassador of Sweden to ASEAN, Marina Berg, who completed her tenure on 13 August 2023.
