JAKARTA, 5 February 2024 – Ambassador Darius Gaidys of the Republic of Lithuania today presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn at the ASEAN Secretariat, assuming his office as the Republic of Lithuania’s Ambassador to ASEAN.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Gaidys on his assumption of duty as the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to ASEAN. He acknowledged the Republic of Lithuania’s commitment to strengthen its relations with ASEAN as well as its diplomatic presence in ASEAN.

Both sides recalled the successful convening of the 24th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels, Belgium, on 2 February 2024, and the issuance of the Joint Ministerial Statement, and looked forward to substantiating ASEAN-Lithuania relations both bilaterally and through the ASEAN-EU framework. They also exchanged views on the implementation of ASEAN-EU Plan of Action (2023-2027) and the ASEAN-EU Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement (CATA) for mutual benefit.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao emphasised that “ASEAN looks forward to working with the Republic of Lithuania in areas of mutual interest bilaterally as well as through the ASEAN-EU framework.”

Ambassador Gaidys said, “I look forward to working towards strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and ASEAN, and its Member States.”

Ambassador Gaidys replaces the previous Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to ASEAN Gediminas Varvuolis, who was based in Tokyo, Japan, and who completed his tenure on 30 September 2021.
