JAKARTA, 12 March 2025 – Ambassador Oybek Eshonov of the Republic of Uzbekistan presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, officially assuming his role as the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to ASEAN.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Eshonov on his new position and affirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with him and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Jakarta to enhance ASEAN-Uzbekistan relations. Secretary-General Dr. Kao encouraged Uzbekistan to continue exploring practical cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual benefit and interests, including trade, investment tourism and connectivity. Additionally, he encouraged Uzbekistan to promote its engagement with ASEAN through the multilateral framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), of which Uzbekistan is a member.
Ambassador Eshonov commended ASEAN’s role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond, as well as its efforts to address global challenges. He expressed his readiness to work closely with ASEAN to strengthen Uzbekistan relations with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States.
Uzbekistan accredited its first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2011. Ambassador Eshonov is the fourth Ambassador accredited to ASEAN, succeeding the previous Ambassador of Uzbekistan to ASEAN who completed his tenure in March 2024.
