A seminar to launch the study report “Narrowing the Development Gap: Follow-Up Monitor of the ASEAN Framework for Equitable Economic Development (AFEED)” was held at the ASEAN Secretariat today. The study assessed development progress in ASEAN across 12 dimensions and provided an in-depth analysis of the progress made by ASEAN member states in achieving equitable economic development in the region.

The launch brought together high-level government officials, including ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN partners. A panel of speakers comprised of the Chair of IAI Task Force, Permanent Representative of Singapore to ASEAN, Ambassador of the Australian Mission to ASEAN, ADB, and a representative from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) shared their views on how the report can help policy makers pinpoint priority development interventions and align strategies to support regional recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. They also highlighted the importance of data collection and analysis, as well as the need to increase investments in areas such as human and digital skills development, education, health, and infrastructure.
