JAKARTA, 14 December 2018 – ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) endorsed the revised ASEAN Guidelines on Good Regulatory Practices (GRP) during its 50th meeting held 11 to 13 December in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The revised GRP guide was developed by ACCSQ Working Group on Standards (WG 1) in collaboration with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) – the National Metrology Institute of Germany. The development and finalisation of these guidelines were completed following three workshops held by WG 1 with the support from PTB Germany.
The GRP guide aims at assisting the ASEAN Member States in designing and implementing adequate regulatory approaches towards the preparation and application of technical regulations. The GRP Guide supports the reduction of technical barriers to trade within ASEAN through observing the approaches provided in the GRP Guide. It also helps Member States in their international obligations under the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. Further, the guidelines support the foundation towards the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 in the area of standards and conformance.
PTB Germany has partnered with ACCSQ and its working groups and have been working hand-in-hand under the scope of the project “Improving Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN” in assisting the bloc in moving towards the objective of establishing an integrated single market and production base with a free flow of goods in the region.
