ASEAN, Chile affirm commitment to enhance development partnership

JAKARTA, 22 April 2024 – ASEAN and Chile held the 5th ASEAN-Chile Development Partnership Committee (AC-DPC) Meeting today at the ASEAN Headquarters. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the development partnership.

The Meeting highlighted both sides’ developments and took note of the progress made in various areas of cooperation under the Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) for ASEAN-Chile Development Partnership 2021-2025 in its fourth year of implementation. The PCA serves as a guiding document for engagement and cooperation between ASEAN and Chile.

The Meeting noted that positive progress has been made in several areas of cooperation such as Trade and Investment, Food, Agriculture and Forestry, and Mineral Cooperation. ASEAN and Chile, nevertheless, were encouraged to continue working closely in exploring collaborative activities of mutual interest under some other areas of cooperation, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Digital Economy, Marine Resources and Fisheries, Science, Technology and Innovation, Tourism, as well as Education and Youth Development. Both sides agreed to explore innovative ways to implement activities, including through modalities such as webinars and virtual or hybrid workshops.

The Meeting was co-chaired by Dato’ Astanah Abdul Aziz, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community and Mario Ignacio Artaza, Ambassador of Chile to ASEAN. In attendance were the members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, officials from the Embassy of Chile in Indonesia and the ASEAN Secretariat. Representatives of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to ASEAN attended the 5th AC-DPC Meeting as observer.
