The ASEAN-China Centre in Beijing celebrated the First Anniversary of its establishment this week.
“Within the short span of one year, the ASEAN-China Centre has made full play of its own advantages, utilising both governmental and non-governmental resources, and engaged in diverse, substantial and effective activities,” said Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mme. Fu Ying in her speech at the reception. She believed that with the strong support and commitment from China and ASEAN Member States, the work of the Centre could be elevated and contribute to a better future for ASEAN and China.
In its first year of operations, the Centre had successfully implemented 31 activities in trade and investment, culture, education and tourism. Among others, the activities include a series of lectures by Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States to China as well as the setting up of an ASEAN products exhibition and trade centre in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province.
Director-General of ASEAN-Thailand, H.E. Arthayudh Srisamoot commended the ASEAN-China Centre for implementing comprehensive array of activities which would contribute to regional integration and ASEAN Community building process. He stated his strong believe that the Centre would be able to achieve its goal as an effective channel for promoting mutual understanding and fostering ASEAN-China relations.
The reception was attended by Members of the Joint Council of Centre, Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States to China and their representatives, members of the diplomatic corps in Beijing, Government Officials from China and other invited guests.
