JAKARTA, 27 November 2017 – A regional workshop on Valuation and Post Clearance Audit (PCA) was held on 20-23 November in Jakarta to enhance the capacity of customs officers in ASEAN in implementing customs valuation and PCA based on international standards and best practices. Twenty-five customs officers from seven ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat attended the workshop.
Hendra Prasmono, Director of Internal Compliance of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE), Indonesia, and Chairperson of the ASEAN Customs Capacity Building Working Group (CCBWG) opened the workshop. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of increasing the competence of customs officers in the field of valuation and PCA due to emerging challenges nowadays. “Customs administrations deliberated significant challenges in balancing their responsibilities for facilitating trade, protecting borders, and collecting revenue,” he said.
Aside from in-class training, the participants toured other facilities at the DGCE’s training centre. They also visited several units at the DGCE’s headquarters, namely the Directorate of Audit, the Indonesian Customs Contact Centre as well as the Indonesia Customs Channel, a web-based radio and TV publication channel of the DGCE that is accessible for the public at https://kanalbc.beacukai.go.id.
The workshop was organised by the DGCE of Indonesia which is the country coordinator for the Strategic Plan of Customs Development (SPCD) 02 on Customs Valuation and SPCD 08 on PCA.
