BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 21 October 2021 -The Bandar Seri Begawan Roadmap (BSBR): An ASEAN Digital Transformation Agenda to Accelerate ASEAN’s Economic Recovery and Digital Economy Integration was officially endorsed by the 20th ASEAN Economic Community Council on 18 October.
The BSBR affirms ASEAN’s collective commitment to a robust five-year agenda towards the development of an integrated ASEAN Digital Economy, culminating in negotiations for the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement by 2025.
It identifies priority initiatives to be undertaken by various sectoral bodies with clear timelines towards the development of a region-wide ASEAN digital economy. It also provides a concrete plan, starting from 2022, to prepare for negotiations for a Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) by 2025.
Once completed, DEFA is expected to be an ambitious and comprehensive agreement of ASEAN which aims to create seamless digital trade ecosystem across the region.
