JAKARTA, 16 October 2020 – The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) organised a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with experts and researchers from various thinks tanks and research institutes, which took place from 15-16 October.
Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo opened the two-day discussion that was also attended by ASEC staff.
At the discussion, participants discussed on the following topics: global value chains, regulatory governance and cooperation, sustainable and inclusive development, as well as megatrends and its implication on institutions and processes.
Experts discussed the challenges confronting ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and offered views and recommendations to address existing impediments to economic integration, as well as the challenges of major global trends.
The Focus Group Discussion is part of ASEC’s stakeholder engagement in conducting the Mid-Term Review of the AEC Blueprint 2025.
The Mid-Term Review of the AEC Blueprint 2025 is supported by the ARISE-PLUS Programme.

ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
