JAKARTA, 9 July 2021 – Representatives from ASEAN national legal metrology authorities took part in an online training on the ASEAN Guidelines for Type Approval Control systems for measuring instruments based on International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) Recommendations, from June 29 to July 8.
Type Approval controls of legally regulated measuring instruments (e.g., weighing scales, fuel dispensers, taximeters, water and electricity meters) are taken by national legal metrology authorities to ensure that the instruments fulfil the prescribed requirements.
Participants were taught to identify the appropriate approach on type approval based on their needs, develop appropriate type approval systems and apply the ASEAN Guidelines to improve the procedures within their authorities.
The National Metrology Institute of Germany, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, conducted the online training in cooperation with the OIML. PTB is working closely with the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standard and Quality Working Group 3 (Legal Metrology) to assist ASEAN in harmonising procedures on legal metrology and contribute to the elimination of technical barriers to trade.
