HYDERABAD, 15 February 2023 – The ASEAN-India Media Exchange concluded today. The exchange took place from 9 February and involved a total of 16 journalists and media officials from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.
During the visit in New Delhi, participants were briefed on India’s G20 Presidency and the overview of India’s economy. They also had a courtesy call with Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, to learn about the history of ASEAN-India relations and areas of cooperation as the two sides have elevated their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last year.
In Hyderabad, the journalists and media officials observed the inaugural session of the 4th ASEAN-India Youth Summit held on 12 – 16 February. They also visited the Ramoji Film City which was certified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest film studio complex, the Bharat Biotech – India’s leading biotechnology company who manufactures COVAXIN, and the National Payments Cooperation of India, an umbrella organisation for operating retail payments and settlement systems in India.
Throughout the activities, the journalists had opportunities to discuss their areas of cooperation with ASEAN countries and lessons learned from these companies that would be relevant to the context of Southeast Asia.
The visit was part of the ASEAN-India Media Exchange Programme 2018-2024 under the purview of the ASEAN-India dialogue relations and supported by the ASEAN-India Fund. The Programme comprises a visit of ASEAN journalists to India and a reciprocal visit of Indian journalists to ASEAN countries. In 2022, two visits were conducted in June and November respectively.
