JAKARTA, 25 June 2018 – ASEAN and India reaffirmed their strong commitment to further strengthening their cooperation at the 18th ASEAN-India Joint Cooperation Committee (AIJCC) Meeting held at the ASEAN Secretariat on 22 June. .

The 18th AIJCC exchanged views on ways and means to further intensify ASEAN-India cooperation, noting with satisfaction the progress in the implementation of ASEAN-India Plan of Action (POA) to Implement the ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace, Progress and Shared Prosperity (2016-2020) as well as the List of Priorities to Implement the POA for 2016-2018.

Both sides discussed several planned activities for 2018-2019 as a follow-up to the outcomes of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in January 2018 as well as continued efforts to implement the POA 2016-2020. These activities and projects cover, among others, the areas of blue economy, science and technology, connectivity, education and business-to-business, cultural and people-to-people contacts, particularly through a number of exchange programmes involving students, media, artists, scholars and youth.

The 18th ASEAN-India JCC Meeting was co-chaired by Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to ASEAN Nguyen Hoanh Nam and Ambassador of India to ASEAN Suresh K. Reddy, and attended by members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and their representatives as well as the ASEAN Secretariat. Joint Secretary for ASEAN Affairs at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Anurag Bhushan, and Indian Ambassador-designate to ASEAN, Rudrendra Tandon were also in attendance.
