CHIANG MAI, 31 August 2023 – Celebrating the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation and the growing sports collaborations between ASEAN and Japan, Japan Sports Agency (JSA) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand held the ASEAN-Japan Sports Showcase 2023 on the margins of the 4th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (4th AMMS+Japan).
With the theme Achieving SDGs through the power of the sports industry, the event seeks to increase the number of joint activities between ASEAN and Japan in sports .
After the 4th AMMS+Japan, Sports Ministers of ASEAN Member States and Japan walked through the showcase allowing exhibitors to introduce their organisation to the Sports Ministers with a view to possible collaboration.
Over 17 companies and organisations from Thailand and Japan participated in the showcase. A key criterion for the exhibitors to be able to participate is their focus on sports across the various SDG areas, namely education, health, disaster management, digital transformation, international cooperation, and organisational management, including leagues and clubs.
The exhibitors were involved in a variety of focus areas such as disaster emergency training through sports, sports training program based on neuroscience which helps build team strength, innovative sports equipment, athletic wear, and technology-based innovations to ensure efficient work out. They showcased their work and introduced their businesses to the Sports Ministers with the hope to engage in potential collaboration.
JSA-initiated platform Japan Sports Business Initiative – known as JSPIN was one of the exhibitors. JSPIN promotes collaborations within the Japanese sports industries and promotes the Japanese companies’ initiatives in the sports sector.
