BANGKOK, 16 May 2023 – The Inter-Sectoral Workshop on Monitoring and Implementation of the ASEAN Roadmap on Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2025 brought together governments of ASEAN Member States, employers’ organisations, workers’ organisations, civil society organisations, and international partners to share knowledge on measures taken to prevent and combat child labour practices in the region. The workshop was attended by senior representatives of relevant ASEAN bodies in charge of labour, education, rural development, social welfare, law enforcement, children’s rights, agriculture and fishery, and statistics.
Participants shared insights on child labour in the global supply chain and due diligence and child labour assessment in procurement. They further discussed measures to curb child labour in the agriculture, fishery, and other hard-to-reach sectors, as well as the promotion of evidence-based policy responses through strengthened child labour statistics and integration of child labour indicators into the national labour force surveys and referrals into case management system. The workshop then underscored the importance of inter-sectoral and inter-agency collaboration and the support from the community, family, civil society, business sector and other stakeholders in eliminating the worst forms of child labour.
Hosted by the ASEAN Secretariat, with the support of the International Labour Organization and the Addressing Labour Exploitation in Fishing in ASEAN Project funded by the US Department of Labor, the workshop was attended by over 130 delegates on site and online. It was convened back-to-back with the First Inter-Sectoral Consultation Workshop on the Development of the ASEAN Declaration on the Elimination of Child Labour jointly hosted by ACWC Thailand and SLOM Thailand on 16-17 May 2023 in Bangkok.
