The ASEAN cooperation in minerals and stakeholders across the region are eagerly awaiting the announcement of winners and awardees of the 3rd ASEAN Mineral Awards this year during the week of 20th November 2023.

The ASEAN Mineral Awards (AMA) honour mining and minerals processing companies operating in the region which have made outstanding contributions towards the promotion of environmentally and socially sustainable minerals development in ASEAN.

Presentation of the AMA is made biannually during the Gala Dinner of the ASEAN Minerals Ministerial Meeting. The Awards recognise contributions involving actual impacts on community development, implications on ASEAN minerals supply, human resource development, productivity and resource efficiency, and actual measures to address health, safety and environmental performance.

The AMA consists of six award categories for metallic and non-metallic minerals development:

Metallic Minerals:

1. Best Practices in Mining

2. Best Practices in Processing (including smelter)

3. Best Practices in Distribution (including transportation, handling, storage)

Non-metallic Minerals:

1. Best Practices in Mining

2. Best Practices in Processing

3. Best Practices in Distribution (including transportation, handling, storage)

The 1st AMA and 2nd AMA were held in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the 3rd AMA which was originally intended for 2021 was rescheduled to 2023.

The winners of the 3rd AMA will be announced during the 9th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Minerals and honoured at the Gala Dinner hosted by Cambodia in November 2023 in Siem Reap.

An accompanying Handbook documenting the best practices on minerals development in ASEAN will also be released. It will feature the AMA winners and finalists and memorialises the AMA best practices to provide real world examples, inspire innovation and spur good practice.
