JAKARTA, 7 August 2018 – ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance reaffirmed their commitment to further explore cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interests at the Fourth Meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and the Group of External Relations of the Pacific Alliance held at the ASEAN Secretariat today.

ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance agreed to explore cooperation in the areas of trade; e-commerce; Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; gender and culture; disaster relief; green growth; and people-to-people exchange such as through education and tourism. Towards this end, they agreed to extend the implementation period of the Work Plan until December 2019. The meeting also agreed to exchange information on major initiatives in each other’s organisation with a view to exploring areas of potential collaboration.

The meeting took stock of the progress in the implementation of the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Work Plan for 2017-2018 which was adopted in September last year. Both sides welcomed various practical activities conducted thus far including the Pacific Alliance’s initiative to organise Spanish language courses for ASEAN in Jakarta and Mexico later this year.

The meeting was co-chaired by Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to ASEAN Ambassador Pengiran Hajah Faezah Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman and Deputy Director of the Pacific Alliance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru Ambassador Luis Mayaute. It was attended by the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN, the Ambassadors of the Pacific Alliance countries to ASEAN, and the representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat.
