  • SOMTC Working Group on Trafficking in Persons (SOMTC WG on TIP)

The SOMTC WG on TIP was first institutionalised at the 7th SOMTC in June 2007 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Since then, the Working Group has met at least once every year. Apart from monitoring the implementation of the SOMTC Work Programme, especially with regard to the trafficking in persons component, the SOMTC WG on TIP also facilitates exchange of information and experiences on issues related to trafficking in persons among the ASEAN Member States; considers ways and means to strengthen regional and international cooperation to prevent and combat trafficking in persons; and facilitates donor coordination and cooperation on projects within the ASEAN region in relation to trafficking in persons. The SOMTC WG on TIP also serves as a permanent mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP). Recently, the 15th SOMTC WG on TIP was held on 24 September 2018 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

  • SOMTC Working Group on Counter Terrorism (SOMTC WG on CT)

The SOMTC WG on CT was institutionalised during the 7th SOMTC held in Vientiane, Lao PDR in June 2007. The Working Group has been held annually and as deemed necessary to facilitate discussions on the development of terrorism cases in the region, and ways to enhance cooperation to counter the challenge.  The SOMTC WG on CT also serves as a permanent mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the ASEAN Convention on Counter Terrorism and ASEAN Comprehensive Plan of Action on Counter Terrorism (ACPoA on CT). Recently, the 15th SOMTC WG on CT was held on 24 September 2018 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

  • SOMTC Working Group on Cybercrime (SOMTC WG on CC)

The SOMTC WG on CC was established in September 2013 at the 9th AMMTC in September 2013 in Vientiane, Lao PDR to brainstorm practical cooperation in combating cybercrime among ASEAN Member States as well as between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners. Since its first Meeting in May 2014 in Singapore, the SOMTC WG on CC has been convened for five times, with the 5th SOMTC WG on CC was held on 24 September 2018 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

  • SOMTC Working Group on Arms Smuggling (SOMTC WG on AS)

The SOMTC WG on AS was approved at the 11th AMMTC in Manila, Philippines on 20 September 2017. The Working Group aims to provide a platform for the ASEAN Member States to collaborate on capacity building, training and sharing of information related to combating arms smuggling. Recently, the 1st SOMTC WG on AS was held on 24 September 2018 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

  • SOMTC Working Group on Illicit Trafficking of Wildlife and Timber (SOMTC WG on ITWT)

Since the inclusion of Illicit Trafficking of Wildlife and Timber as one of areas of transnational crime under the AMMTC/SOMTC in 2015, the 11th AMMTC, held in Manila, Philippines on 20 September 2017 also agreed to establish the SOMTC WG on ITWT. The SOMTC WG on ITWT aims to strengthen regional and international law enforcement cooperation, including through facilitating the exchange of information related to combating wildlife and timber trafficking. The 1st SOMTC WG on ITWT was held on 29-30 March 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.

  • Heads of Specialist Trafficking Units (HSU)

The inaugural Heads of Specialist Anti-Trafficking Units (HSU) was held in April 2004 in Myanmar to serve as a platform for exchange of information and experiences, developing common standard and approaches in investigating trafficking in persons cases, cooperation on operational cases, particularly in relation to victim protection and rescue. The establishment of HSU was based on the mandate of the ASEAN Declaration against Trafficking in Persons, particularly Women and Children, the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime and UN Trafficking Protocol. Since February 2010, the HSU functions under the SOMTC WG on TIP. The 33rd HSU Meeting held in conjunction with the 18th SOMTC in Putrajaya, Malaysia in September 2018.
