- ABOUT ASEANThe Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.Menu
- WHAT WE DO
ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat

ASEAN shall develop friendly relations and mutually beneficial dialogues, cooperation and partnerships with countries and sub-regional, regional and international organisations and institutions. This includes external partners, ASEAN entities, human rights bodies, non-ASEAN Member States Ambassadors to ASEAN, ASEAN committees in third countries and international organisations, as well as international / regional organisations.

The rodmap for an ASEAN Community (2009-2015) was declared by the leaders in 2009. The ASEAN Community, anchored on three community pillars: Political-Security Community, Economic Community, Socio-Cultural Community was launched in 2015. The ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together was introduced in 2015 as a Post-2015 Vision. It comprises the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025, the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh
Madam Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, a distinguished figure from Viet Nam, is a regional champion for women’s economic advancement. For decades, Madam Minh has advocated for key regional initiatives and provided policy advisory for the region’s business ecosystem, aligning with her aspiration to achieve a sustainable economy and an inclusive community.
Her determination to promote women’s socio-economic empowerment has been demonstrated by consistent efforts to connect women entrepreneur communities across the region, establishing a strong foundation for regional partnership and cooperation among pioneering women leaders in the business sector. Her remarkable initiatives have significantly contributed to the progress and development of the ASEAN Economic Community.
Madam Minh was instrumental to the establishment of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network (AWEN). As a founder of AWEN in 2014, she has emerged as a pioneering force in driving regional cooperation and integration in the business sector. Through AWEN, she has successfully organised an entrepreneurial community within the region, facilitating the seamless exchange of knowledge, fostering business collaboration, and championing community building among ASEAN Member States.
In addition, Madam Minh has held several significant appointments. She was formerly the Vice President of the Central Council of Vietnam Business Associations and was the Vietnam Chair of the Global Summit of Women. She currently serves as the Founder and Chair of WeLead (https://weleadvn.org), an epitomizing driven by the mission to uplift and empower women entrepreneurs and women-led businesses through a transformative change in the business landscape brought about by collaborative efforts and creative solutions.
With more than 37 years of work experience, Madam Minh has gathered extensive familiarity in numerous fields, including policy advocacy and consultation, advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in enterprises, support for trade and entrepreneurship, promotion of SMEs and women-led enterprises, among others.
ASEAN acknowledges Madam Minh’s perseverance in spearheading various initiatives to promote a more inclusive regional business landscape, epitomising capable leadership in advancing ASEAN’s journey of regional integration.
