HANOI, 15 October 2025 — The ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) Working Group on Legal Metrology (WG3) held a focused workshop on 13–14 October to align legal metrology priorities for 2026–2030. The workshop was organised by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) – the National Metrology Institute of Germany, in collaboration with the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam.

The workshop agreed on a set of priorities for the next work cycle. These include addressing nascent sectors where legal metrology underpins innovation and market confidence; streamlining legacy priorities to optimise resources; strengthening coordination between legal metrology and scientific metrology on cross-cutting issues; and integrating sustainable development considerations across all WG3 activities.

The workshop also underscored the importance of establishing a periodic review of ASEAN legal metrology guidelines, advancing mutual recognition where feasible to reduce barriers to trade, and deepening ASEAN’s participation in regional and international bodies to enhance capacity building and international alignment.

These outcomes aim  to better protect consumers, support MSMEs, and ensure ASEAN keeps pace with emerging technologies and sustainability goals. WG3 will consolidate the workshop outputs into a draft Work Plan 2026–2030, to bealigned with the ACCSQ Sectoral Plan 2026–2030.
