MANILA, 26 November 2020 – The Third ASEAN Red Ribbon for Outstanding Workplace (ARROW) recognised six private companies from ASEAN Member States (AMS) for their commitment to raising HIV awareness and promoting non-discriminatory policies and working environments for workers with HIV and AIDS.
Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sendirian Berhad; Sabrina Garment Manufacturing Corporation of Cambodia; Karex Berhad of Malaysia; the Panay Power Corporation of the Philippines; Johnson & Johnson Pte. Ltd. of Singapore; and Siam Food Products Public Co., Ltd. of Thailand received the ARROW Award certificates and trophies, at the virtual Award hosted by the Philippine’s Department of Labour and Employment.
The Award started in 2012 and has become a flagship initiative of the ASEAN Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS (ASEAN-BCA).
Since then, the Award is convened biennially to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of companies in AMS, on prevention and control of HIV and AIDS in the workplace.
The Award is also expected to inspire other employers and workers to reduce the prevalence of HIV and AIDS in the workplace and promote an inclusive and supportive environment.
In his remarks, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi expressed hope that the ARROW Award would promote more champions who support the productivity of workers with HIV and AIDS, in ensuring that they secure decent work with no stigma and discrimination.
He further underscored that only by working together can we fully realise an ASEAN Community that is truly inclusive for all.
The Third ARROW Award Ceremony took place back-to-back with the Sixth Meeting of ASEAN-BCA on 25 November. On this occasion, Singapore assumed the ASEAN-BCA Coordinator role for the next two years.
National business coalitions on AIDS and employers’ associations discussed their priorities for the 2020-2022 period including the Fourth ARROW Award that will be hosted by Singapore in 2022.
Indonesia hosted the inaugural Award Ceremony in 2016, while Malaysia hosted the second Award Ceremony in 2018.
