Jakarta, 24 March 2018 – The 10th Coordinating Conference for the ASEAN Political-Security Community (ASCCO) was held at the ASEAN Secretariat on 22 March. The conference, which was chaired by Hoang Anh Tuan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), conducted the first biennial review of the implementation of the APSC Blueprint 2025.
The review provided an assessment of the Blueprint’s implementation since its adoption in 2015. Participants identified several key issues to be addressed, including qualitative analyses of meetings and activities under the APSC towards the realisation of the ASEAN Community and better coordination on cross-cutting issues which involve not only the APSC but also the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) pillars.
Participants exchanged views on moving towards the full implementation of the Blueprint. They also highlighted the importance of improving public awareness of the APSC’s progress and accomplishments through outreach activities.
The conference was attended by representatives from the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM), the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), and Sectoral Bodies under the APSC pillar as well as the AEC and ASCC pillars. In addition, representatives from ASEAN entities such as the ASEAN Law Association (ALA), the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR), AHA Centre and the ASEAN Foundation were also present.
The ASCCO is held annually and plays an important role in coordinating the efforts of the various Sectoral Bodies in the realisation of the APSC.
