JAKARTA, 2 July 2024 – Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community Satvinder Singh and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ASEAN Lee Jang-Keun launched the ASEAN-ROK Project on Critical Minerals Management and Strategy for Sustainable Environment in ASEAN on 1 July in Jakarta.
The project will provide a series of capacity building for ASEAN officials to improve knowledge in critical minerals exploration, including in the use of smart mineral exploration technology and real-time data platform.
It will also compile and update ASEAN Member States’ geological and mineral occurrences maps to support the provision of datasets to effectively attract investor attention and help in the development of critical minerals in the region.
DSG Singh, in his remarks, extended his gratitude to the ROK and highlighted that the project will contribute to the advancement of digital transformation in the mineral sector in ASEAN, crucial to increase not only sustainability but also efficiency and safety in the industry.
Together with Ambassador Lee, DSG Singh expressed appreciation to the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP), Geological Agency of Indonesia, and Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), the co-proponent and implementing agencies of the project.
