To support the ongoing process of economic integration and ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) building among ASEAN Member States (AMSs), especially in the area of consumer protection, the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) today launches The ASEAN Consumer Complaints leaflet.

The leaflet contains information on hotlines and/or national focal points in all AMSs for consumer complaints to ensure better regional awareness, understanding and information dissemination among both ASEAN and non-ASEAN consumers; and more generally, the regional and extra-regional public at large. It will be distributed simultaneously to the public in all ten AMSs.

Madame Mahani Tan Abdullah, Deputy Secretary General, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism and Chairperson of the ACCP said, “This leaflet shows our concerted effort and commitment in ensuring better consumer protection within the ASEAN region that takes into account the existing consumer protection mechanism in ASEAN Member States. The information in the leaflet will be useful not only for ASEAN consumers but also for tourists who visit the AMSs. With such information, it will therefore enhance consumer confidence while dealing with businesses in the ASEAN market. It is hoped that this will also encourage ASEAN traders to engage in fair and ethical practises when dealing with consumers. The ACCP is committed in coming out with more initiatives towards improving the consumer welfare of the peoples of ASEAN”.

Copies of the leaflets have recently been produced by the ASEAN Secretariat and distributed to the ACCP focal points in each AMS. The leaflets will be available for dissemination at the entry points in individual AMSs and at other locations such as hotels and department stores. The same leaflets would also be distributed at the official ASEAN meetings. The electronic version of the leaflet can be accessed on the ASEAN website (, on the ACCP website on consumer redress, and on the official websites of the offices or agencies in charge of with consumer protection in individual AMSs.
