JAKARTA, 13 October 2022 – The Ambassador of the Republic of San Marino to ASEAN Massimo Ferdinandi paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community Satvinder Singh on 11 October. They discussed synergies and cooperation and highlighted a possible joint project in promoting lesser-known ASEAN tourism destinations to European travellers.
Both sides are confident that the collaboration will contribute positively to ASEAN Tourism towards its recovery journey. They also look forward to ASEAN’s participation in the upcoming online training to enhance tourism planning and management skills in November 2022. The outcome of the training will facilitate further discussions related to the overall development of the project.
Additionally, both sides agreed on the importance of i) promoting high-quality tourism focusing on the development of community-based standards, ecotourism, and travel corridors; ii) implementing the ASEAN Framework on Sustainable Tourism Development in the Post COVID-19 Era which covers environment, economic development, job creation, and social inclusion; as well as iii) promoting ASEAN as a “Destination for Every Dream” with a special acknowledgment that five of the ASEAN Member States made it to the Forbes’ “World’s 50 most Beautiful Countries” list.
Other areas discussed during the visit include the advancement of sustainable development in the tourism sector, human capital development through upskilling/reskilling of the tourism workforce, and engagement with relevant stakeholders and partners to support the recovery programmes.
