AREQUIPA, 20 May 2024 – ASEAN Secretariat officials participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting in Arequipa, Peru this week.
Earlier on, the ASEAN Secretariat officials also took part in the Joint Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade and Ministers for Women as well as APEC’s 2nd Senior Official Meeting conducted last week.
As one of the three APEC’s official observers, ASEAN Secretariat provided regular updates on the regional economic outlook, the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025, as well as ongoing effort to develop the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its Strategic Plans. In addition, ASEAN’s key initiatives on digitalisation, sustainability, and increasing women’s participation in regional and global trade were also highlighted during these meetings.
As the host of APEC this year, Peru’s priorities will undertake the overarching theme of “Empower, Include, Grow” – promoting trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth, innovation and digitalization to promote transition to the formal and global economy, as well as sustainable growth for resilient development. The Republic of Peru was conferred the status of Development Partner of ASEAN during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on January this year in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.
