KUCHING, 20 January 2025 – The 3rd ASEAN’s Focal Group on Global Value Chains (FG-GVC) Meeting convened this afternoon in Kuching, Malaysia. The meeting brought together 17 ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) sectoral bodies to advance ASEAN’s global value chain (GVC) agenda and strengthen the region’s economic resilience amidst evolving global challenges.
The meeting discussed the development of key GVC initiatives shaping ASEAN’s economic integration, including the development of ASEAN Framework for Integrated Semiconductor Supply Chain (AFISS), one of the proposed Priority Economic Deliverable under Malaysia’s Chairmanship aimed at enhancing regional collaboration in this vital sector.
Members of FG-GVC also reviewed the progress of ASEAN’s GVC Work Plan 2016-2025 and deliberated on the draft study on ASEAN GVC Resilience, which will inform the development of the ASEAN GVC Sectoral Plan for 2026–2030.
Additionally, the meeting exchanged views on the refined draft of the Framework for the ASEAN Industrial Project-Based Initiative, aimed at strengthening regional industrial cooperation and development. Discussions also focused on strengthening the governance of ASEAN’s GVC agenda to ensure ASEAN remains well-equipped to address global emerging challenges.
