JAKARTA, 29 November 2019 – ASEAN and Switzerland today agreed to add further substance to their cooperation in order to make the partnership more robust in the coming years.
Meeting at the 4th ASEAN-Switzerland Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee at the ASEAN Secretariat, both sides saw the vast potential to expand collaboration in areas such as cybersecurity, MSMEs development, addressing challenges of 4th Industrial Revolution, tourism, public health, waste management, connectivity, narrowing of the development gap, promoting the rights and welfare of children, mine action, water resources management, and support for the ASEAN Smart Cities Network initiative.
The meeting also noted with satisfaction the progress made in ASEAN-Switzerland cooperation since conferment of the status of Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN on Switzerland in July 2016. Both sides discussed extensively completed, ongoing, and planned projects and cooperative activities in implementing the ASEAN-Switzerland Practical Cooperation Areas 2017-2021.
ASEAN and Switzerland reiterated their commitment to effectively implementing the remaining measures under the ASEAN-Switzerland Practical Cooperation Areas.
The Meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political-Security Community Department Hoang Anh Tuan and Assistant State Secretary for Asia and Pacific of Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Raphael Nägeli. It was attended by the Permanent Representatives to ASEAN or their representatives and their respective delegation. The Swiss delegation comprised representatives from a number of Swiss Agencies.
