BANGKOK, 30 January 2017 – Representatives from eight ASEAN countries participated in a workshop on “Accreditation Marketing and Awareness Raising at the national level” on 10-12 January in Bangkok. This initiative was part of the strategy to promote recognition and acceptance of conformity assessment results.

Participants gained practical tools to improve effectiveness of their organisations’ communication to help raise awareness on accreditation and accredited services within ASEAN, especially to ASEAN regulatory bodies. Topics included marketing and communications principles; strategic marketing planning; marketing channels; content marketing; press and public relations; advertising and events.

Accreditation is a key service needed by various industries and government authorities. It determines the technical competence, reliability and integrity of conformity assessment bodies which check conformity and compliance with standards and regulations.  Accreditation works through a process of transparent and impartial evaluation of these organisations against internationally recognised standards and other requirements.

The workshop was organised and supported by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB – the National Metrology Institute of Germany) and is a component of the ASEAN – PTB project “Improving Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN”.
