JAKARTA, 29 November 2023 – ASEAN and Türkiye reaffirmed their commitment to accelerate cooperation at the Fifth ASEAN-Türkiye Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AT-JSCC) meeting held at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Senior officials from ASEAN and Türkiye welcomed the growing cooperation and looked forward to accelerating cooperation under the new ASEAN-Türkiye Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) 2024-2028, adopted at the meeting.
Both sides exchanged views on the future direction of the ASEAN-Türkiye Sectoral Dialogue Partnership and noted the importance of strengthening and exploring cooperation in areas such as combating transnational crime, terrorism, violent extremism, and radicalisation; peace and reconciliation, trade and investment, people-to-people exchanges, digital transformation and digital economy, and disaster risk reduction, and humanitarian assistance.
ASEAN and Türkiye touched upon key regional and international issues of common interest and concern and highlighted the importance of ASEAN-led mechanisms and ASEAN Centrality in maintaining peace, security and stability in the region.
The 5th AT-JSCC was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Community and Corporate Affairs, Tran Duc Binh, and Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to ASEAN, Prof. Dr. Talip Küçükcan.
The meeting was attended by members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN or their representatives and their respective delegations. The Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, Natércia Coelho da Silva, also attended as an observer.
