While contributing to a good cause of supporting children’s education and caring for the elderly, visitors of the ASEAN Secretariat will be treated to a celebration of various delicacies and cultural cornucopia through a bazaar organized by the ASEAN Women’s Circle this week on 2-3 November 2012.
Aptly themed ‘Beauty and Harmony of ASEAN’, the ASEAN Women’s Circle Grand Charity Bazaar will present more than 70 stalls that will showcase the richness and diversity of ASEAN Member States.From handicrafts to tourism information, from traditional culinary to modern arts and paintings, the bazaar intends to highlight the cultural wealth of the region.
Aimed at fostering a sense of friendship and solidarity among the ASEAN people and to help contribute funding for children’s education and nursing homes, the bazaar is open to the general public from 9.30 -14.30 on both days.
The opening ceremony will feature colourful performances from some ASEAN Member States, a short film on tourism, and a fashion show. Mme. Mahaswi Swajaya, President of the ASEAN Women’s Circle, will open the event together with H.E. Mr Bagas Hapsoro, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs And H.E. Maria Rosario C. Aguinaldo, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philipines to Indonesia.
ASEAN Women’s Circle of Jakarta is a social organization that consists of women from ten ASEAN Member States living in Jakarta, including wives of ASEAN Ambassadors from ten ASEAN Member States. The current chief patron is Mme. Sranya Natalegawa and Mme. Alisa Pitsuwan as Advisor to the organisation. Established on 8 August 1975, the AWC is committed to strengthen solidarity as well as promote cooperation among its members through various programs on cultural and social activities, charity events, and other social works.
