MANILA, 7 February 2018 – The ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) of Jakarta provided support to the population affected by the Mayon Volcano eruption and the rehabilitation efforts in Marawi City in the Philippines.
Dorothy Delgado Novicio, AWC Vice President, handed over the donation to Rev. Fr. Gilbert P. Kabigting, Priest-in-charge and Assistant Treasurer of Caritas, Manila at the Caritas headquarter in Manila, Philippines on 6 February 2018.
The donation included sleeping bags, hygiene kits, face masks and cash amounting to 50,000.00 Philippine Pisos through Caritas, Manila. The items will be immediately sent to evacuation centres in Albay province, the Philippines. The cash donation, however, will be turned over to Caritas’ provincial office that is in charge of Marawi rehabilitation projects, specifically to purchase school supplies for children and basic necessities for women.
Caritas Manila is a non-profit organisation operating in the Philippines, with social services and integrated family development programs for the poor and the vulnerable. Its key intervention programs for poverty alleviation are in education and economics to benefit its youth and family partners.
AWC is a social organization, whose members consist of women from ten ASEAN Members States and Dialogue Partners living in Jakarta. AWC aims to strengthen regional solidarity as well as to promote cooperation among their members through various social and cultural activities.
