In celebration of International Women’s Day and in light of 50 years of ASEAN, the ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) of Jakarta held its Installation Ceremony today at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta with the theme “Bold and Gold for Change”. The ceremony marked the official handover of the AWC presidency from Madam Ugi Pramono to the new president, Madam Sari Percaya, who are both from Indonesia.

The organisation’s Chief Patron and Guest of Honor, Madam Yasmin-Fachir, spouse of Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister, thanked the AWC for its role in strengthening solidarity and in promoting cooperation among ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners.

“During its development, the AWC has contributed to the works and goals of ASEAN to become one sharing and caring community,” Ibu Yasmin said.  She also emphasized that AWC has contributed and participated in various social, cultural and humanitarian activities.

ASEAN Deputy Secretary General for Community and Corporate Affairs AKP Mochtan highlighted that AWC “continues to bring colours and grace to the ASEAN Secretariat.”  He praised the AWC for its outreach activities that have benefited the less fortunate through their people-centred and people-oriented endeavors.  DSG Mochtan added that “ASEAN will continue to shine” as it celebrates its golden jubilee this year.

In her acceptance speech, the new AWC president underscored the priorities of her presidency, such as “to promote cultural diversity of ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners through education and social activities for the community.” She said that “the celebration of the International Women’s month cherishes and recognizes women’s political, economic and social achievements over the decades.”

As she bade AWC goodbye, Ibu Ugi Pramono recalled the great team work of AWC.  She also highlighted that AWC had been a key factor in connecting her to the warmth of community of people. “I am blessed to have everyone in the AWC family helping out as much as possible.  Our small contribution to the ASEAN community could not have happened without the help of everyone,” she said.

At the same event, AWC handed its donation to three charitable foundations. Other new officers of the organization were also introduced to the public.
