JAKARTA, 4 November 2016 - The ASEAN Women’s Circle of Jakarta (AWC) hosted its Annual Bazaar on 2-3 November at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to raise fund for charity. More than 60 vendors offered goods ranging from batik fabric and clothes to handicrafts and accessories.
In her welcome remarks at the opening ceremony, AWC President Ugi Pramono thanked everyone for their support to make this annual event a success. She briefed the audience on what the AWC accomplished over the past year.
AWC Chief Patron Yasmin Fachir, underscored AWC’s role as a partner of ASEAN, especially in its effort to build a caring and sharing ASEAN Community.
Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs Dr. AKP Mochtan told the audience how bazaars serve as market places to foster deeper understanding and develop stronger appreciation of other cultures.
During the opening ceremony, Ugi Pramono handed over AWC’s donation to Nadham Subketi, principal of Sekolah Alam Tunas Mulia Bantar Gebang, a school nestled near a large garbage dump in Bekasi. Aside from Sekolah Alam Tunas, AWC also donated to the earthquake victims of Myanmar.
Participated in by all ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners which sold products and delicacies from their countries, this year’s bazaar raised about US$ 10,000 to be used for charitable activities. AWC is currently identifying possible beneficiaries from this project.
