Jakarta, 9 January 2012

Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN, received a courtesy call from Mr. Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-General Designate of the Beijing-headquartered ASEAN-China Centre. They exchanged views on how the ASEAN-China Centre can fully live out its mandate.

Dr. Surin shared that the foremost challenge for the ASEAN-China Centre is to make known the opportunities in China to ASEAN Member States, and vice versa.

Both Dr. Surin and Mr. Ma also agreed that it would be helpful for the ASEAN-China Centre to launch activities that would bring together the private sector, the government and the people of the region.

The ASEAN-China Centre in Beijing is a one-stop information and activities centre that aims to promote the active involvement of the private sector in ASEAN-China cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and culture.
