The 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC), held virtually and hosted by Brunei Darussalam on 29 September 2021, adopted the Bandar Seri Begawan Declaration on Combating Transnational Crime Post-Covid-19 Pandemic, which reaffirms the ASEAN Member States’ shared commitment and collective responsibility in combatting transnational crime post-COVID-19 pandemic in the region.

The Declaration is a key deliverable for the 2021 Brunei Darussalam’s Chairmanship of the AMMTC. It articulates the need for law enforcement officials to be vigilant, adaptable and flexible in addressing the new and evolving transnational crime trends in the post-COVID-19 landscape, including the accelerated digitisation of society, whilst also protecting the lives and well-being of peoples. It also calls for collective efforts of all ASEAN Member States to intensify efforts to prevent and combat transnational crime, including through the promotion of cross-pillar and cross-sectoral cooperation and coordination in the post-pandemic era.
